P.C. Trouble

boxopen560.jpgSwitched my pc on the other day and it sounded awful, like a vacuum cleaner,so i first thought this must be the PSU (power supply unit) which also houses a fan,the bearing on this fan eventually wear out,and if the fan stops the pc overheats and causes all kinds of trouble,so i look on Digital Promotions site and see that their only 9.50 to buy so i opened the pc up…and it does look very complicated with wires everywhere but its not that bad really,4 screws hold the psu in place then you just unplug wires from the motherboard, hardrive, disk drive(s) and floppy(do ppl still use this) so i took the old one with me and asked the guy for one,so i ask him “are they all the same” “yes, their all universal” so i get it home put the four fixing screws in then try the motherboardpsu.jpg plug…….Ahhh….it didn’t fit…it was about a cm bigger,so i took it out again went back the shop and said to the lad “this didn’t fit,the motherboard plug was bigger” so the lad opens the box, gets hold of the motherboard plug and slides a piece off…….”.ow ‘i said”sorry about that,so i get back home fit it in,press the power button ……………..and…………….IT WAS STILL NOISY…………….it was the processor fan……………………Now this is a lot easier to replace,4 fixing screws and a small plug that goes on the motherboard………………So……….i take this the shop, ask”have you got a processor fan like this”…..”nope,we don’t do them” so i went to another shop and gotpro-fan.jpg one………………..then when i get home…………….I’ve forgot which way the fan goes on so i had to take the side off the upstairs fan to have a look at that……………………It’s now done and working perfect………PHEW.

You’re a brave man taking apart your pc !!! Did you find you had any screws left over afterwards?

Glad you knew what you were doing and your computer ended up working fine again. I`ve taken mine apart to clean it and have added more memory, but so far that`s as far as I have tried. Hope I don`t find more problems as I`m not real knowledgeable about the fans etc..
Thanks for dropping by my blog.Wish my digital battery hadn`t lost it`s charge before the wedding. Guess I`ll have to get a new battery.

Byron,i do always seem to lose the 2 screws that hold the side panells on lol.
Dot,they’re not that complicated, its only the psu that looks mad with wires coming out everywhere,p.c. shops will tell you its a specialist job coz they want the work but most pc’s are quite easy to repair as you found out with your ram upgrade,i’m now thinking of building my own top of the range pc,and buying the parts whenever ive got the spare cash.
